Dress Up In You

September 4th, 2009

I always loved you
You always had a lot of style
I’d hate to see you on the pile
Of “nearly-made-it’s”
You’ve got the essence, dear
If I could have a second skin
I’d probably dress up in you

And the decades disappear like sinking ships
But we persevere god gives us hope
But we still fear we don’t know
The mind is poison

Chief Mark Of Our Epoch

March 7th, 2009

It is customary to complain of the bustle and strenuousness of our epoch.  But in truth the chief mark of our epoch is profound laziness and fatigue; and the fact is that the real laziness is the cause of the apparent bustle.

Cue Intro Music:

“I have a little poem I’d like to read in honor of this occasion, if I may. Spaulding, get your foot off the boat! :

It’s easy to grin
when your ship comes in
and you’ve got the stock market beat.
But the man worthwhile
is the man who can smile
when his shorts are too tight in the seat”

…ah-ha-ha-ha. OK, Pookie, do the honors. ”

Human

January 22nd, 2009

And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord…

…And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye, wish me well
You’ve gotta let me go

-The Killers

Stop stop talking about who’s to blame
When all that counts is how to change

Not Just Accessories

January 2nd, 2009

Sometimes, when we lose ourselves in fear and despair, in routine and constancy, in hopelessness and tragedy, we can thank God for Bavarian sugar cookies.

And, fortunately, when there aren’t any cookies, we can still find reassurance in a familiar hand on our skin, or a kind and loving gesture, or subtle encouragement, or a loving embrace, or an offer of comfort, not to mention hospital gurneys and nose plugs, an uneaten Danish, soft-spoken secrets, and Fender Stratocasters, and maybe the occasional piece of fiction.

And we must remember that all these things, the nuances, the anomalies, the subtleties, which we assume only accessorize our days, are effective for a much larger and nobler cause. They are here to save our lives. I know the idea seems strange, but I also know that it just so happens to be true.
