Taste We Can Believe In

I read this quote from Obama yesterday and it made me laugh.  I found it on another blog, so although I trust it is legit, it could be a misquote.  See if you can catch what made me crack up.

“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.” – Barack Obama

Just a rant here and my rant isn’t towards obama, or any political figure. Just a commentary. Lemme know your thoughts:

Do you really think we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world? Or, do you think we are just a biased, and typical ethnocentric country? And when you throw in “history of the world?,” really, we are a better nation, then say back in the day with the roman empire? the british colonies? Do people in other countries think they live in the greatest nation? Or do they say, “well, we came close, but we got 3rd place again.”

    (and then sleep with Gob)

we’re definitely ethnocentric… it’s what some would call patriotism? i think i took a class about the differences between the two… but that was long ago

anyway, there are different ways to judge the “greatness” of a country
say, for example, we completely combust or melt or whatever… how many other countries would feel it? i’m thinking a bunch…

as you can see.. politics and world events are my forte’!

Ah, youre using that faulty MVP voting argument (if you remove X from team Y, they would suck, therefore they must be most valuable).

I don’t know the answer. I just know that our viewpoint is often very limited, and we shouldn’t be so quick to lay such bold claims.

just like how i’m an mvp at emerald… if i was to leave… this place would be in shambles…
    i hope they’re not reading this… eek

I think our nation is the greatest of all time. I’ll tell you why if you want me stump speech. That isn’t to say that other countries don’t have wonderful attributes. But I’d choose to live her every time!

  6. Andy says:

stump away. we can turn this totally into speakers corner
