Why vote? Well, voting is a civil right, hard-won for all citizens, races, and gender and is the foundation of our democracy. Voting is also a privilege. Millions of people around the world have no say in who governs them, so don’t squander the opportunity and frankly, power that you posses. And finally, as opposite as it may seem, every single vote really does count.
Here is a great PSA that I just came across. There were times during it that I was busting up laughing, and other times where my eyes got a little moist.
Doug wrote a great post on faith. Check it out:
There’s no combination of words I can put on the back of a postcard
no song that i can sing, but I can try for your heart.
Our dreams and they are made out of real things,
like a shoebox of photographs, some sepia tone loving.
love is the answer at least, to most of the questions in my heart,
why are we here and where do we go and how come its so hard.
Its not always easy as sometimes life can be deceiving,
ill tell you one thing its always better when we’re together.
-Jack Johnson
I read this quote from Obama yesterday and it made me laugh. I found it on another blog, so although I trust it is legit, it could be a misquote. See if you can catch what made me crack up.
“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.” – Barack Obama
This article ran a long time ago, but I am a proud son so I wanted to make sure to grab the link and the article and post it here for posterity. http://www.floristsreview.com/main/march/featurestory2.html

Not everybody can pull off an oceanside surfboard ceremony, but for this couple, who got engaged while scuba diving (the groom had written “Will you marry me?” on a wipe-off board), it made sense. The couple—the florist’s daughter and new son-in-law—had spent time in Southeast Asia and requested orchids and other tropical flowers that reminded them of that experience. Leis of green and white Dendrobium orchids adorned the “altar” along with coordinating tropical arrangements. The most tedious part, Debbie Morales shares, was ensuring that the borrowed surfboards did not get damaged. She created the horizontal spray in a casket saddle and secured it to one board with pew hooks. Twenty-two “trees,” made of brake fern and Dendrobium orchids, were created by inserting bouquet holders into 8-foot-tall bamboo shoots. The trees helped direct guests from the ceremony to the reception.
One of my favorite poems of all time is one by Wendell Berry:
Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
Love the quick profit, the annual raise,
vacation with pay. Want more
of everything ready-made. Be afraid
to know your neighbors and to die.
And you will have a window in your head.
Not even your future will be a mystery
any more. Your mind will be punched in a card
and shut away in a little drawer.
When they want you to buy something
they will call you. When they want you
to die for profit they will let you know. So, friends, every day do something
that won’t compute. Love the Lord.
Love the world. Work for nothing.
Take all that you have and be poor.
Love someone who does not deserve it.
Denounce the government and embrace
the flag. Hope to live in that free
republic for which it stands.
Give your approval to all you cannot
understand. Praise ignorance, for what man
has not encountered he has not destroyed.Ask the questions that have no answers.
Invest in the millenium. Plant sequoias.
Say that your main crop is the forest
that you did not plant,
that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested
when they have rotted into the mold.
Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.Put your faith in the two inches of humus
that will build under the trees
every thousand years.
Listen to carrion – put your ear
close, and hear the faint chattering
of the songs that are to come.
Expect the end of the world. Laugh.
Laughter is immeasurable. Be joyful
though you have considered all the facts.
So long as women do not go cheap
for power, please women more than men.
Ask yourself: Will this satisfy
a woman satisfied to bear a child?
Will this disturb the sleep
of a woman near to giving birth?Go with your love to the fields.
Lie down in the shade. Rest your head
in her lap. Swear allegiance
to what is nighest your thoughts.
As soon as the generals and the politicos
can predict the motions of your mind,
lose it. Leave it as a sign
to mark the false trail, the way
you didn’t go. Be like the fox
who makes more tracks than necessary,
some in the wrong direction.
Practice resurrection.
The Chargers travelled to London to play the Saints, and boy did Brees have his way with us. Granted, the Saints offense is one of the best in the entire NFL, however, the Chargers defense should play better then this. LT finally has a break out game, yet we couldn’t overcome the poor defense, and the crazy amounts of penalites. As I see it, at this point, the Chargers can only afford to lose one more game this entire season. I think they can get into the playoffs at 10-6. Today they are now 3-5. Pathetic.
